Starrett number for a lost scriber attachment is PT16589 SCRIBER FOR #57 SURFACE GAGE
My old Starrett 154A Adjustable Parallels from the 1980s, great for any number of situations. Measuring the width of a cavity or as an adjustable Jo Block for a sine bar setup, etc.
The Starrett Catalog called this the "Universal Precision Gage" (see below). "Applications - Can be used as a height gage, scriber, planer and shaper gage, for gap measurement, as an adjustable parallel, for transferring settings with indicators, for checking and layout on surface plates, and with gage blocks or sine bars."
Unlike the standard Planer and Shaper gages (No.599, etc.) it came with a number of attachments/extensions and had a fine adjustment. These extensions could increase the range to around 10 inches. To me it's a poor-man's height gage - always used on a surface plate. Precision scriber, level, square, set-ups, etc. etc.
